TNO, the Netherlands Organisation for applied scientific research TNO, was founded by law in 1932 to enable business and government to apply knowledge. As an organisation regulated by public law, we are independent: not part of any government, university or company. Please read more about our organisation below.

 

Flying Food

Flying Food is a public private partnership (PPP). Governmental parties, industry and any NGOs and knowledge institutions collectively enter into a cooperative partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and receive subsidies for a program that focuses relevant themes developed by the ministry. Flying Food is sponsored by the Dutch Ministries facility for Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Food Security (FDOV) and by the Achmea Foundation. It consists of 12 partners: TNO (coordinator), VENIK, Kreca, NGN Pro-Active, Nostimos B.V., M. Ruig en Zonen B.V., ICCO, BoPInc and HAS University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands, JOOUST University, ADS, MIXA Foods and Beverages and KBL in Kenya and ICCO ROCEA, FXSsalango and EntoAfrica in Uganda.

Innovations Against Poverty

EntoAfrica’s plan for upscaling has been awarded by a grant by Innovations Against Poverty, funded by Sida (Sweden) and managed by SNV Netherlands (in Uganda)

Proti- Farm - The Protein Company

Proti-Farm produces large quantities of sustainable, high quality insect ingredients for the food and pharmaceutical industry and is based in Ermelo, The Netherlands. The company history started in 1981 with the founding of Kreca. Kreca is amongst the most recognised and respected insect producers worldwide with in-house knowledge of and experience with the rearing of more than ten species of insects (different species of mealworms, grasshoppers, crickets etc). In 2015, Proti-Farm acquired all activities of Kreca and is currently in the process of scaling up the buffalo (Alphitobius diaperinus) for the food and pharmaceutical industry.
